The Ke Ali'i Maka'ainana Hawaiian Civic Club welcomes Ka 'Imi Ike (The Seeker of Knowledge) Program. On January 31, 2007, KAMHCC wanted to take advantage of a learning opportunity with a grant offered by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs to promote the education of Hawaiian Language, Culture and Values. KAMHCC made an offer to Bryce Mendez and Kaimanamalie Lee, Native Hawaiian students at the George Washington University, to take the lead and develop a four month, interactive and exciting program to instill Hawaiian Language, Culture and Values among the members of KAMHCC.
Throughout these next few months, we will be having eight (8), bi-weekly units that will help you learn more 'Olelo Hawaii, as well as the way Native Hawaiians have and continue to live. Each unit will consist of a set of vocabulary, conversational sentence pattern, an 'olelo no'eau, an interactive activity, and will be all pulled together with one overall theme. In addition, we will be have two live presentations at upcoming KAMHCC general meetings and will author four articles relevant to our curriculum.
We will post units in PDF. format. Also note the Ha'awina (assignment) at the end. As we continue to go forward, we will progressively explore other avenues of interactivity, making use of the internet and its resources (website, discussion board, listserv, etc.)
Should you have any questions or mana'o, feel free to email us at the address provided below. Good luck and have fun!
